ESTHER, 14/05/2012 09:11 Last week I heard a Hungarian critic talking live on stage. He is a member of the jury of the Hungarian version of Got talent. He is well-known. But man, was he vulgar! I was schocked. I think that vulgarity might have its function - after all, there is a reason why it's part of the language. But why not using it only when necessary and pertinent?
Modernity is a popular watchword. But is modern magic better than classical magic? Well, that depends.
From now on, you'll be able to meet me on the second Monday of each month between 19h and 23h in my Business Magic Club.
We've just uploaded a new Business Magic video called How to handle money. Click on the "more" button to view it.
During the first few minutes of the Iron Lady I turned to my friend and asked her whether it was really Meryl Streep on screen. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears: perfect mask, perfect accent, perfect Thatcher. So I dared to declare right then and there that it was an Oscar-winning role. And it's a movie we can learn a lot from, wheter we work in business, politics, or even magic.
Perhaps it is not really possible to write about Penn Jillette's God, no! without being unladylike. In fact, Jillette uses words like f**k and c**k so extensively that I am bound to mention it right now. He also tries to piss everyone and their mother off and he's successful in his mission. It's a good, thought-provoking book, but consider yourself warned.
Here is a fast and innovative solution to the problem of inflation.
John Lennon once told George Martin that he wanted to re-record everything they'd ever done with the Beatles. And when Sir George Martin, hurt, asked him whether he wanted to re-record "Strawberry fields" as well, he was adamant: "Especially Strawberry fields".
Csongrádi Béla, aka Káró is a well known magician in Kecskemét, Hungary – he is the leader of the local Rodolfo magic club. For me, he is not only a magician from my home town, he is also the first magician to teach me. I owe him a lot. 20 years ago, he showed me the basics of magic, he was the person to show me my first serious magic tricks, to prepare me for my first competition... On occasion of the 100th birthday of the Hungarian magic legend, Rodolfo, we talked a little bit about magic, teaching, learning, and the Rodolfo legacy.
The Philippine magician, Leodini asks in a recent blog post whether all magicians are atheists or not. His personal response is negative: he explains their practice of prayer in the Philippines and phenomena like gospel magic. But at the same time he suggests that many magicians "lost their sense of wonder" and therefore they are unable to accept things they cannot rationally explain. So, if you are a magician, is it obligatory and necessary for you to be (or become) an atheist? Does being a rational person exclude automatically being a religious/spiritual person? Just entered the final stage of the preparation of the snooker spot. A few scenes are already recortded. During the last few weeks, we modified and rewrote the script a little bit (again...), for example the notion of "good beer" is given a brand new meaning (heh). Here are a few photos taken during discussion and rehearsal, as well as a secret page from the Great Encyclopedia of Magicians. Tomorrow, by the way, we'll shoot another scene where we'll invade the attic...
Esther will also perform on the gala of the 24th Corodini Convention of Budapest (15/10, from 19:30 to 21:30 PM). View the event here.
It has been at least 15 years since I read my last bedtime story... but now I found a great excuse to do it (at this age I already need one): there is a magician in the tale. And no, I don't want to and will not admit that it was more than great to act like a child again!
Mr. Jupiter just opened his second Jupiter Magic Shop last weekend. Thus, the number of magic shops is now three in the city of Budapest (who would not know the sanctuary of the Hungarian professionals, the Figaro?). On this occasion, Jupiter discusses his objectives and tells us whether it is necessary to raise the number of amateur magicians.
Theater and Magic - a Budapest Exhibition.
A few days ago I promised that I would tell you more about my new projects.
Not song long ago, I was invited by a student organization to a pub called Rex Williams. Previously, the place was run by Kobuci, and is now under new management. They are working in order to create a new clientele of regulars for this attractable little pub, mostly among the young and the fans of snooker. And in this operation, magic will play a crucial role...
For the last months, there was dread silence on this blog. First, we had to face a major technical catastrophe, then life itself stood in the way. Of course, of course, who cares now? :)
“I did not teach close-up magic because I educated stage magicians, that is would-be professional magicians. Close-up is a typically amateur branch of magic, as it is unpalatable in a theater or in a cabaret with its little props.”
This funny video gives a whole new meaning to the watchword „magic for all occasions” - it's sick, isn't it?:) I absolutely draw the line at funerals – you can find the rest here :).
